PEP GUARDIOLA PREVIEW

Pep Guardiola held his pre-match press conference on Tuesday 18 February, and is expecting a tough test.

“You have to make an almost perfect game, obviously,” the City boss. “The result is not the perfect situation.

“We have to attack and score goals, this is the idea. We will have to play an almost perfect game to go through.”

He previewed the game alongside Bernardo Silva, who said: “The right approach first of all is belief. Even though the task is difficult, always believe it is possible.

“No matter what happens in the first 20-30 minutes stay in the tie and then follow the plan.

“We know how good they are at running, countering and putting you under pressure. But we need to deal with those situations.”

PREVIOUS MEETING

Our last visit to the Bernabeu was a thrilling Champions League quarter-final first leg last April which ended 3-3. Bernardo Silva fired City ahead inside two minutes before the home side hit back quickly with a an own goal from Ruben Dias and deflected prod from Rodrygo.

Pep Guardiola’s side enjoyed the better of the second half and wonderful goals from Phil Foden and Josko Gvardiol regained our advantage.

But Federico Valverde’s brilliant volley rescued a draw as we extended our unbeaten run in the Champions League to 22 matches.

LAST TIME OUT

Carlo Ancelotti’s men secured a 3-2 victory at the Etihad last week in the first leg to hold a slender advantage in the tie.

Erling Haaland scored either side of Kylian Mbappe’s goal to have us ahead, before late goals from Brahim Diaz and Jude Bellingham secured a precious away win for the Spanish side.

In league terms, we cruised to an impressive 4-0 victory over Newcastle United on Saturday afternoon, with Omar Marmoush bagging a hat-trick.

As for Real, they were also in league action on Saturday and were held to a 1-1 draw away to Osasuna. Kylian Mbappe got the goal for Real, whilst Jude Bellingham was sent off.
