Thanks and goodnight

A tough night sees our Champions League campaign come to an end.

There is still plenty to play for however, starting with Sunday's huge Premier League clash at home to Liverpool.

We will see you then but in the meantime many thanks as always for your company this evening.

More from the boss 🗣️

We didn’t deserve to go through. It’s the first time we didn’t have a fantastic Champions League season.

We are so lucky to be here for so many years and to win it once. We have to accept that this season we were not close enough.

Pep's verdict 🗣️

We accept it. The best team won. I congratulate Real Madrid and now we focus on the Premier League.

In 180 minutes, we had a good 30 or 35 minutes, the rest we struggled. We came here one goal down and started with an injury to John and then it is more difficult with the quality they have.

Steve Howey looks ahead to Sunday's Liverpool clash 🗣️

The neutrals will want to watch it and be expecting goals.

These are the games you want to play in but for City they will be looking at it and be thinking we are out of Europe.

Now we have to give ourselves the best chances of finishing as high up the league as possible and it all starts on Sunday.

David James' full time verdict 🗣️

Mbappe's hat trick showed why he has long been regarded as one of the best strikers in the world.

They were three excellent finishes from a quality player.

Fan-tastic

A word for our travelling Blues supporters.

As always they were class and did the Club proud.

Elsewhere tonight

Paris Saint-Germain have steam-rollered Brest 7-0 to seal a 10-0 aggregate win.

PSV secured a 2-1 win against Juventus. That means the tie is locked at 3-3 and will head into extra time.

In the Premier League meanwhile Aston Villa and Liverpool fought out a 2-2 draw at Villa Park.

Liverpool of course are next up for City in the Premier League on Sunday at the Etihad.

Mbappe's night

It was always going to be a tough ask away at Real and that early Mbappe goal really sucked the life out of us you feel.

In the end that Mbappe hat-trick sealed the deal for the defending champions.

We will come again but this was not to be our year in the Champions League.
