The attacking midfielder – best known for her incredible goalscoring ability from distance – has become an integral part of Nick Cushing’s side, aiding the Club’s 2019/20 cup double-winning success and playing a key part of this season’s hunt for silverware.
Impressed with her development both on and off the pitch so far, Weir hopes to reach another level in sky blue, and enjoy more trophy success.
“I’m delighted to have signed a new contract,” she said. “I’ve had a really enjoyable first 18 months and I’m really pleased to have extended my stay here.
“It was definitely an easy decision. I would like to think I’ve improved a lot. It’s a great Club and it really tests you, taking you out of your comfort zone.
“There’s a pressure to improve and a lot of expectation to win every game and win trophies, which has improved my mindset.
“That was new for me and that’s what I’ve developed the most. When I first joined, I was a bit younger and so excited to be at a Club like this. It’s been everything I hoped for.
“The Club are known to be so good as being equal, treating the women’s players as ultimate professionals. That’s huge for me as a player and it’s great to be part of.
“I love Manchester – I love the city – and from day one, I’ve felt at home here. It’s so welcoming and friendly and I’m very settled here.
“I’m looking forward to staying longer, and hopefully, we can continue to go out and compete for trophies.”
Weir’s signing follows last week’s excellent news of captain Steph Houghton’s new deal, providing a major boost for the Club ahead of Sunday’s crucial FA Women’s Super League clash with Arsenal.
The midfielder has already shone on the big stage this season, netting a sensational winner in the first professional Manchester Derby at the Etihad Stadium, having also produced a Player of the Match performance in the 2019 Continental Cup Final success.
Buoyed by her new deal, the 24-year-old – Scotland's 2016 Women's Player of the Year, who has bagged 15 goals in her 53 City appearances – is relishing the chance to make her mark again.
“It’s a big week – a tough week,” she added. “These are the games you want to play in and you want to be in these positions.
“Sunday is a huge game in the league title race and we’re all looking forward to it. We’re excited. We know what’s at stake but we’re confident we can put things right and play well to hopefully get the three points we need.
“Personally, I feel there’s more to come from me. I’m hitting a good age now – I’m fairly experienced and I’m building on that. I want to help the team in whatever way on and off the pitch, continuing to develop. That’s my main aim.
“At the start of the season, I look at what I want to achieve personally, and as a team, obviously we want to compete for everything.
“There are bits of my game I work on every day – the physical aspect, for example – and we have access to all of the help we need. It’s the best environment to be in.
“I can’t wait for the next two years.”
Asked whether we could expect more long-range wonderstrikes, Weir laughed: “Hopefully! I practice them in training and if they come off, great!
“We’ll have to wait and see!”
Reflecting on Weir’s new deal, Head of Women’s Football Gavin Makel said: “Since joining the Club, Caroline has proven in her performances that she is a top-class player and has the ability to develop even further.
“She is highly regarded within the Club and I am delighted that she will continue her journey with us here at Manchester City.”
