Manchester City U18s winger Ian Carlo Poveda has fired a warning message to City’s rivals in the hunt for trophies this season.
City beat fellow FA Youth Cup finalists Chelsea on Saturday, thanks to goals from Tom Dele-Bashiru and Taylor Richards.
That win was City’s first in the Merit Group stage and with the clash at Arsenal to come on Wednesday, Poveda believes there’s much more to come from him and his teammates.
He said: “We go in to every match looking to win it. That’s part of being at this club. We have a lot of big matches coming up in the league and the cup and if we keep working hard and stay focused, we think we can go on to win them.”
As with many matches this season, City were visibly smaller than their London opponents but Poveda feels City have the mentality to get around that obstacle.
“We weren’t scared of Chelsea. We knew that they were more physical than us but we work on passing and our stamina and making sure that we can pass the ball around teams,” said the 17-year-old.

That gave Argentine winger Benjamin Garre the opportunity to make his debut while U16s Jeremie Frimpong, Taylor Richards and Bobby Duncan all made the step up.
“It’s always a great chance for the young players to play above their age group and I think Jeremie, Taylor and Bobby all did well when they were on,” said Poveda.
“Jeremie was really important as a defender and Benjamin fit in to the team straight away. Bobby and Taylor made a big difference in the last few minutes to help us out. Taylor got his goal too which we’re really happy about.
“As a player that’s played a lot this season, I knew we would have to be at our best to beat Chelsea and I was ready to help any of my teammates if they needed it.”
