Seven City players selected for England Arnold Clark Cup squad

Seven City players have been selected for Sarina Wiegman’s latest England squad, while Laura Coombs has also received her first call-up since November 2020.

Seven City players have been selected for Sarina Wiegman’s latest England squad, while Laura Coombs has also received her first call-up since November 2020. 

Ellie Roebuck, Sandy MacIver, Alex Greenwood, Chloe Kelly, Lauren Hemp, Jess Park (on loan at Everton) make up the entirety of those from the Club called upon to represent the Lionesses. 

Coombs’ inclusion marks her first under the Dutch coach and her first since November 2020 when she was picked by Phil Neville - and adds to what’s been a wonderful few days for the 32-year-old. 


On Monday, she penned a new deal at the Academy Stadium – keeping her in sky blue until 2025 – before receiving the news she’ll link-up with the Lionesses for their upcoming games against South Korea, Italy and Belgium in the Arnold Clark Cup. 

England’s fixture with South Korea will be played at Stadium MK on Thursday 16 February at 19:45 (UK). 

Wiegman’s side then face Italy three days later at the Coventry Building Society Arena on Sunday 19 February at 15:15 (UK), before a trip to Ashton Gate to lock horns with Belgium on Wednesday 22 February.

Elsewhere, Australian trio Hayley Raso, Mary Fowler and Alanna Kennedy have all been selected for the 2023 Cup of Nations.

The Matildas face the Czech Republic on 16 February, before ties with Jamaica and Spain three and six days later respectively.

Yui Hasegawa will travels to the 2023 SheBelieves Cup, where Japan will face Brazil, the United States and Canada for the top prize.

Julie Blakstad will also be in action for Norway at the Tournoi de France.

She will lock horns with Uruguay (15 February), Denmark (18 February) and France (21 February) across the international break.

Additionally, Kerstin Casparij and Filippa Angeldahl have been selected for the Netherlands and Sweden as they prepare for friendly matches.

The Dutch face Austria in a double-header on Friday 17 and Tuesday 21 February respectively, while Angeldahl's Sweden take on China (16 February) and Germany (21 February).

Finally, youngsters Khiara Keating and Annie Hutchings have been selected for England Under-19s' training camp ahead of matches against Germany and Switzerland.  

Both games take place at the Camilo Cano Sports City in Alicante, Spain with the fixture with Germany taking place on Thursday 16 February at 18:00 (UK) - before competing against Switzerland on Tuesday 21 February at 14:00 (UK).
