Doyle pens new City deal

Doyle pens new City deal
Tommy Doyle has signed a four-year extension to his current City deal, keeping him at the Club until 2025.

The midfielder, part of our academy setup since the age of eight, made his first Premier League appearance in July as a second-half substitute against Newcastle United, having made his first-team debut back in October 2019  in a 3–1 EFL Cup win over Southampton

In total, he has clocked up three senior appearances for City thus far.

He says he’s thrilled to have committed to the Club he has supported all his life and wants to keep improving in the coming years.

“I see this place as my home,” he told CityTV. “I’ve been here so many years and to be offered a new contract was a massive thing for me. It was a no brainer to sign. Now it’s all sorted, I’m happy and ready for the start of the season now.

“I’m very happy with my progress. I am just trying to use the staff as much as possible and the players to get as much information for me to grow as a player and a person. I think the main thing is stepping out on that pitch and when I’ve done it, every time I’ve loved every minute of it. Hopefully this season I can get some more appearances and keep kicking on.

“For a young player, it’s everyone’s dream to play in the Premier League. It’s been my dream, especially at this club, because it’s the club that I love. To be trying to do it [play in Premier League] and to have done it before means so much to me.”

WATCH: Tommy Doyle reveals first-team players’ advice

Doyle is from a family with strong City credentials, with both his grandfathers considered Club legends.

Mike Doyle made 570 appearances for the Club, which puts him third on our all-time list of appearance makers, and Glyn Pardoe, who played 380 times, remains the youngest player to pull on a City shirt having made his debut against Birmingham City in 1962 aged just 15 and 341 days old.

Both players scored in the 1970 League Cup final win over West Brom at Wembley.

Tommy is widely seen as one of the finest academy players we have produced in recent years and is now regularly involved in the first-team setup.

Everyone at City would like to send their congratulations to Tommy on signing his new deal and we wish him all the best for the coming years.
