“John has been training has been training the last two days with us,” said Guardiola.

“Hopefully they can help him.”

It is unclear whether Stones will be available for selection for Saturday’s home game against Brighton.

PREVIOUS MEETING

City returned to the top of the Premier League table with a 3-0 win over Graham Potter’s Brighton at the Etihad back in April 2022.

Pep Guardiola’s side had to wait until the second half to find the breakthrough after dominating proceedings in the opening 45 minutes.

Riyad Mahrez’s chip had enough purchase on it to find its way into the back of the net, despite the best efforts of the Seagulls’ defence.

Phil Foden followed that up with a strike of his own, a short corner by Mahrez found the England international on the edge of the box and his effort took a deflection which wrong-footed Robert Sanchez.

And Bernardo Silva rounded the scoring off with a delightful first-time effort with eight minutes to go.

LAST TIME OUT

City fell to our first defeat of the 2022/23 Premier League season away to Liverpool on Sunday.

Mohamed Salah’s second half strike proving the difference in a tight contest on Merseyside.

As for Brighton, they lost 2-0 against Brentford on Friday night with England striker Ivan Toney netting both goals.
