Hat-trick hero Phil Foden has hailed City's composure, fortitude and dominance in the 3-1 Premier League victory over Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium.

Neal Maupay stroked the hosts ahead against the run of play after 21 minutes but Pep Guardiola‘s men struck back seconds before the interval, with Foden poking in from eight yards.

Eight minutes after the break, Foden headed in his second and completed the comeback, connecting with Kevin De Bruyne‘s accurate cross to claim only the second headed goal of his league career.

With 20 minutes left to play, Foden secured the points with a superb third, linking with Erling Haaland before slotting into the corner.

“We knew the threat they had and they’re a fantastic team,” he said. “We had to keep going and react and I think we did that really well. We controlled the full game. I’m delighted with the outcome of the game.

“We stayed calm. We’re a team who trust our ability. There are ups and downs in football. We played really well even when 1-0 down. We had to remain patient.

“They closed the spaces but we stayed patient and controlled the game which is the main thing, we created a lot of chances too, which was nice to see.

“It was massively important [timing of equaliser]. It came at a great time, it gives you a good feeling going into the second-half.

“I’m delighted with the performance because it is so difficult here. I thought throughout we deserved the win, we had a lot of chances and dominated the ball. So I’m delighted with the outcome.”

Foden‘s heroics mean it is now nine wins in a row for City in all competitions and we have now won 17 points from losing positions in the league this season, only Liverpool (19) have recovered more.

The Englishman, who was named Player of the Match after a perfect display, now has eight goals and seven assists in the top-flight this season.

“I”m really delighted with my performances at the moment,” he declared. “I’m playing a lot of minutes now and playing more inside now. I’m delighted with how I’m playing.

“This is the best form I’ve probably had in a City shirt for a long time consistently. Long may that continue and continue working hard on the training pitch and I’ll keep trying to get better.

“I’m a person who adapts and will play a lot of positions when needed. I know in this side I will play a lot of positions and I have to be ready.

“I’m enjoying playing anywhere in the middle, that’s where I see myself playing my best football. Hopefully I can keep getting more game time in the middle as much as I can.

“All I set for myself is to better my last season’s stats. That’s what I’m trying to do this year. Just improve every year, more goals and assists. Being an attacking player at City, that’s your goal. To create and score.

“I’m doing that well this season but I need to keep going and keep showing this level of performance more often.”
