PEP GUARDIOLA PREVIEW

Pep Guardiola addressed the media on Tuesday afternoon. The first question he answered was in regards to Kevin de Bruyne’s injury which he sustained in our opening Premier League win over Burnley.

“It’s a serious injury,”  said Guardiola. “We have to decide on surgery but he will be a few months out.

Asked when the decision would be taken, he revealed: “In the next days.

“First of all, the injury to Kevin is a blow and big loss for us,” he continued. Kevin has specific qualities. You can lose it for one or two games but for a long time this is tough for us.

“But we have to look forward and we have alternatives there at other options. [There are] opportunities now for the other ones - life gives you that - and I am pretty sure they will take it.”

Team news

Josko Gvardiol is set for his first Manchester City start as Pep Guardiola makes four changes for Wednesday night’s UEFA Super Cup clash with Sevilla in Piraeus, Athens.

John Stones and Ruben Dias who missed last Friday’s opening Premier League victory at Burnley, are both named on the bench.

Bernardo Silva is also absent through illness while Guardiola confirmed at his pre-match press conference on Tuesday that De Bruyne faces a lengthy period on the sidelines after suffering a recurrence of his hamstring injury at Turf Moor.

HOW THEY GOT HERE

Pep Guardiola’s men defeated Inter Milan 1-0 in the 2022/23 Champions League final in Istanbul to reach the UEFA Super Cup showpiece.

Spanish side Sevilla meanwhile overcame AS Roma on penalties to be crowned 2022/23 Europa League victors.

LAST TIME OUT

Erling Haaland scored a brilliant brace with Rodrigo also on target as we began the defence of our Premier League title in fine style with a hugely impressive 3-0 win at newly-promoted Burnley on Friday evening.
