LINE-UPS

City: Ederson, Lewis, Ake, Laporte, Akanji, Gundogan (c), De Bruyne, Foden, Alvarez, Mahrez, Haaland

Subs: Ortega Moreno, Walker, Dias, Phillips, Stones, Grealish, Rodrigo, Bernardo, Gomez

Leeds United: Robles, Kristensen, Wober, Firpo, Ayling, McKennie, Forshaw, Roca, Harrison, Bamford, Gnonto.

Subs: Meslier, Koch, Aaronson, Summerville, Rodrigo, Stuijk, Rutter, Greenwood, Gray

POSSIBLE FORMATION

With Erling Haaland and Julian Alvarez both starting against Leeds, it seems likely that the Blues will line-up with something resembling a 4-4-2.

That would mean Riyad Mahrez on the right and Phil Foden on the left as attacking midfielders/wingers.

De Bruyne and Gundogan would therefore pin the midfield quartet while Lewis and Nathan Ake are right and left-back respectively with Akanji and Laporte in central defence ahead of regular custodian Ederson.

PEP GUARDIOLA PREVIEW

On the challenge of Sam Allardyce’s Leeds, he said: “Always the impact of a new manager on the players in the first one or two games.

“they are playing every game for important things.

“It’s to stay here. The impact is huge. No information we have to adapt quickly after 10-15 minutes.

“Again it’s a massively important game for us.”

squad update

On Kevin De Bruyne’s availability, Guardiola said: “He trained yesterday and (was) good. He will train today, and we will decide.

“He has been missing one week or 10 days and at this time of the season, that is not a problem. It’s like Nathan - if he’s fit he can play.”

On the squad’s overall condition, he added: “I’m thinking in how there’s a lot of games with a lot of tension.

“I see the team really tired after demanding games against Fulham and West Ham.

“We have to see how the players recover again after just three days in the previous games.

“My decision will be focused on how physical and mental they play.

“After Madrid, the Premier League is so nice and important to go four points in front of Arsenal. Really important. Our focus is on tomorrow.

“Everyone has to be ready, contribution of everyone will be important. Lots or few minutes.”

PREVIOUS MEETING

Our last home clash against this weekend’s opponents came in December 2021, when Pep Guardiola became the quickest manager to reach 500 Premier League goals as we beat Leeds United 7-0 to go four points clear at the top of the table.

Kevin De Bruyne scored a brace for the defending champions, who also had Phil Foden, Jack Grealish, Riyad Mahrez, John Stones and Nathan Ake on target as we hit top form against Marcelo Bielsa’s side.

Erling Haaland netted a festive double to help City to a 3-1 Premier League victory over Leeds United at Elland Road in the reverse fixture this season. Rodrigo scored the other.

LAST TIME OUT

Nathan Ake’s header, Erling Haaland’s clever chip and a deflected Phil Foden strike inspired City to a 3-0 Premier League victory over West Ham United to send us back to the top of the Premier League in midweek.

On what was an historic night at the Etihad, Ake headed the Blues in front to calm the nerves of the home support five minutes into the second period.

Haaland doubled City’s lead as he scored the goal that makes him the Premier League’s all-time record goalscorer with 35 - he has 51 in all competitions - and his sumptuous chip was fitting of such a landmark.

Foden‘’s stunning late volley wrapped up victory - the 1,000th goal of Pep Guardiola‘s era at the Club - though it was a hard-earned three points.
