PEP GUARDIOLA PREVIEW

The boss says he will make a decision on John Stones, Matheus Nunes and Ederson’s selection against Everton following our final two training sessions ahead of the Boxing Day encounter.

Stones returned to the starting XI for our Premier League clash with Aston Villa but was brought off at half-time, with Guardiola admitting the defender had felt a disturbance as the break approached.

Ederson and Nunes, meanwhile, weren’t part of the squad at Villa Park and the boss said each will be assessed when the team trains this afternoon and Wednesday evening.

“I didn’t talk with the doctors but if he could not play the second half at Villa Park it is because he wasn’t ready. We’ll see,” the boss responded when asked about Stones’ condition.

On Ederson and Nunes, he added: “We train this afternoon and will see how many players we have available.

“At the moment, I don’t know.”

PREVIOUS MEETING

Our last home encounter with Everton came in February 2024, where Erling Haaland broke the deadlock after 71 minutes, blasting in from close-range, before coolly slotting in our second with five minutes left to play to secure three vital points, temporarily taking us top of the table.

LAST TIME OUT

We fell to a sixth league defeat in eight matches last time out as Aston Villa claimed a 2-1 victory at Villa Park.

Everton will play on Sunday, hosting in-form Chelsea at Goodison Park.
