Goal: Manchester City to wear stunning 125th anniversary kit in Community Shield clash against Liverpool

Oliver Dawnay: “Manchester City have unveiled a stylish 125-year anniversary kit which will be worn in the Community Shield against Liverpool on Sunday.

“Fans voted on the features of the jersey and new kit partners Puma have delivered with a classy and retro shirt which is inspired by the club’s history.

The Football Faithful: Man City and Liverpool combined XI

Harry Diamond: “A fine defender and comfortable in bringing the ball out of defence, Laporte’s ability as a ball-playing defender make him ideally suited to Guardiola’s possession-based style.

“The 25-year-old has since established himself as the club’s first-choice defender, whilst he has also shown versatility in filling in at left-back on occasion.

“Having helped City to back-to-back titles and a domestic treble, his continued omission from the France squad remains surprising.”

Manchester Evening News: What Pep Guardiola’s Man City transfer comments about half a player actually meant

Stuart Brennan [on Asier Riesgo]: “A 35-year-old keeper from a bottom-half La Liga club, being courted by the might of Manchester City?

“But Riesgo would be strictly third choice, and represent experienced back-up if anything happens to Ederson or Claudio Bravo, as it did last year when the Chilean ruptured his achilles tendon and City walked a tightrope for the rest of the season.”

Manchester Evening News: The two players Man City are tipped to sign before transfer window closes

Josh Challies: “Guardiola‘s side are odds-on to land Portuguese full-back Joao Cancelo from the Serie A champions, having been attributed with interest in his services throughout the summer.

“The 25-year-old has amassed plenty of experience through his career so far with the likes of Benfica and Valencia, while his versatility also means he is capable of playing on the right wing or on the left side of defence.”
