Gossip: City lead Jorginho chase?

GOSSIP: The MEN believe City are chasing Napoli midfielder Jorginho

GOSSIP: The MEN believe City are chasing Napoli midfielder Jorginho

There's more transfer gossip this morning as Manchester City prepare for the final game of the season at Southampton.

And there are plenty of records City can still break before the campaign ends.

Let’s start with a report in the Manchester Evening News suggesting City are in pole position to sign Napoli midfielder Jorginho.

James Robson writes: "Manchester City's pursuit of Jorginho has been boosted by Jose Mourinho's decision to cool his interest in the Italian international.

"The Premier League champions were already considered the front-runners for the Napoli midfielder - but competition from Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea meant Jorginho was not short of options this summer.

"Now Mourinho is understood to have placed alternative targets ahead of the 26-year-old after instructing scouts to draw up a list of world class midfielders to replace the retiring Michael Carrick.

"United have monitored Fred, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, Marco Verratti, Jean-Michael Seri and Arturo Vidal in recent months, with Mourinho not ruling out the possibility of making two additions to his engine room as part of a squad overhaul.

"By contrast Pep Guardiola only intends to fine tune a City squad that could become the first team in Premier League history to reach 100 points."

And staying with the Manchester Evening News, they have outlined seven records City could still break going into Sunday’s final game of the season at Southampton.

The Blues have set a series of significant milestones this season, including most goals, points and wins in a Premier League campaign.

But there are more still on the table.

Richard Fay writes:

Biggest winning margin (Premier League)

18 - Victory for City will see them win the league by 19 points at least, however they could finish the day 22 points clear if United lose to Watford.

Best goal difference (Premier League)

71 - Chelsea hold the record for the best goal difference in a single season, however the Blues currently have +78, so it seems inevitable this record will fall.

The fill list is well worth checking out.

That's all for today's media roundup. Stay with us throughout the day as we continue to build up to Sunday's game at Southampton.
