Pep Guardiola paid tribute to another impressive display from Rodri as City rounded off our successful Asia Tour with a fine 3-1 win over Yokohama F Marinos.

Kevin De Bruyne, Raheem Sterling and substitute Lukas Nmecha were all on the scoresheet in what was a hugely entertaining affair.

As well as scoring the opener, De Bruyne also created the second and impressed throughout with his vision and work rate.

But the City manager was equally taken by another assured performance from Rodri with our summer signing from Atletico Madrid once again catching the eye with his composure and guile.

“Yeah. Kevin made another great game but Rodri was incredible the way he played,” said Guardiola.

“I can assure you we have an incredible holding midfielder for the years he is here.

Bernardo is now back at his normal level, Sterling continued. Stones and Ayemric...these guys played incredibly well in the game today.”

As the boss had predicted beforehand, Yokohama proved more than useful opponents, drawing level after we had taken an early lead and threatening throughout.

And Guardiola said it was just the workout his players required ahead of the demands of the domestic season with our Community Shield clash against Liverpool just eight days away.

“It was an incredible test for us, incredible game, it was incredibly demanding," the manager added.

“For the conditions, for the quality of opponent, and his proposal, his high pressing, the way he plays with the ball.

“So, it was good from both sides, it was an incredible test for our progression for the next game and for the future, so a big compliment to the players, no injuries, so we beat an incredible team.

“People say ‘ahh Yokohama in Japan’ but I know exactly how good they.

“Now we need time and we need more games to be in the best condition.”
