CHAMPIONS LEAGUE: Bernardo eyes a "special" campaign.

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE: Bernardo eyes a "special" campaign.

Bernardo Silva says Manchester City have everything needed to challenge for this season’s Champions League.

With the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona and Bayern Munich still in the competition and all avoiding each other in the quarter-final draw, the 23-year-old admits winning Europe’s elite competition will be tough.

But the Portuguese star, whose performances have been superb in recent months as he has established himself in Pep Guardiola’s side, believes the Blues have nothing to fear after drawing Premier League rivals Liverpool.

“Of course, it always matters who you draw,” he said. “But we will try to win..

“When you get Real or Barca, teams who have a lot of experience in this competition, it’s always complicated.

“But I think we have a good team to make something special.

City are currently enjoying a mid-season break in Abu Dhabi in a bid to recharge batteries ahead of the final stage of the season.

The players have taken part in warm-weather training sessions and tactical meetings in order to fine-tune the squad as we look to add the Premier League and Champions League to our Carabao Cup success.

It’s been a valuable few days in the UAE, which Bernardo says will be crucial in order to compete with the other remaining Champions League sides.

“It feels great to be in Abu Dhabi, especially because we didn’t have the winter break that most other countries have,” he said.

“It’s to recharge batteries to then go and play the last month-and-a half of the season and win the Premier League and try and do something special in the Champions League.

“The Champions League is a different competition – a special one – but we will do our best.”
