T IS FOR TEVEZ: Carlos powers the ball home against Mexico in 2010

We continue our A-Z of the World Cup with a much-travelled Argentina forward...

T is for Tevez

Former City striker Carlos Tevez played 76 times for Argentina including the 2006 and 2010 World Cup campaigns.

Tevez was just 22 when he made the Albiceleste squad for the 2006 finals in Germany.

Although he wasn't in the starting line-up for his side's tournament opener (a 2-1 win over Ivory Coast), Tevez scored in the 6-0 win over Serbia and Montenegro, and started in the game against the hosts that Argentina lost on penalties in the quarter-finals.

Four years later in South Africa Argentina flew through their group with maximum points, before Tevez scored a brace in the 3-1 last-16 victory over Mexico.

However, Germany yet again proved too strong for Diego Maradona's side in the quarters, winning 4-0.

The sight of a Tevez tearing into opposition teams became familiar to Etihad Stadium fans during his stint with the Blues.

He plundered 58 Premier League goals between 2009 and 2013 with his game an irresistible mix of commitment and quality, and he was part of City's transition into a title-winning side once again, claiming the FA Cup and Premier League trophies with us.
