Pep: David Silva is amazing

SILVA SHINES: Pep is full of praise for David ahead of his 300th City appearance

SILVA SHINES: Pep is full of praise for David ahead of his 300th City appearance

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has heaped praise on David Silva ahead of the weekend’s game with Hull.

If selected, the Spanish midfielder will make his 300th appearance for City since his move from Valencia in 2010.

He is regarded by many City supporters as the Club’s finest-ever player, yet a feeling persists his quality hasn’t been properly recognised by the English football authorities.

He has made the Premier League Team of the Season on just one occasion (2011-12) and has never won the Player of the Year award, something Guardiola doesn’t understand.

“So, he's fantastic, fantastic. Amazing, fantastic,” Guardiola said.

“I know he's never been nominated as one of the best three players in the league here - and only nominated once for player of the month.

“I'm a little bit surprised about that because he's an outstanding player. You cannot imagine how good he is.

“He's a top player, I'm happy to enjoy him as a manager.

Silva, 31, is enjoying arguably his best season since his arrival at City, with the free role afforded to him by Guardiola helping to increase his influence on City’s attacking play.

Having spent much of last season hampered by an ankle problem, he's been injury-free this term and revelling in Guardiola's buccaneering side.

And the Catalan boss says Silva can go on longer, providing injuries don’t take their toll.

“It depends on him,” Guardiola said.

“We don't need to discuss his quality. We don't discuss how professional and how ambitious he is. It's just about his age, the injuries, the levels he played at.

“Last season for example he had an injury but this year he has been completely fit. There are no doubts about him.
