In his sixth appearance on loan at Sunderland, the Belgian was employed as a holding midfielder in the Black Cats’ triumph over Hull – and though there was natural acclaim for the goalscorers – Denayer grabbed some praise too.

Defoe and Anichebe will (rightly) get the plaudits but Jason Denayer was excellent in midfield for #SAFC today. Pressed very well— Chris Weatherspoon (@christoph_21) November 19, 2016
Aside from the front two, thought Denayer was good today. Bundle of energy in closing down #SAFC— Chris Young (@cysportspress) November 19, 2016
Top marks to Jason Denayer too. Brilliant just in front of the back 4 today. Mopped up very well. Him or Anichebe my MOTM #SAFC— WIN! NEW IPHONE 7! (@giveawaypevva) November 19, 2016

North of the border, Patrick Roberts helped Celtic to a 1-0 victory at Kilmarnock. The youngster almost found the net from long-range but was denied by Jamie MacDonald, before he was substituted on 66 minutes in place of Tom Rogic.
