Skillful and talented attacking force who promises much for the future

Patrick Roberts is one of the brightest young English wingers to emerge in recent seasons.

Before joining City in July 2015, he had made just 19 appearances for Fulham's first-team, having helped the Cottagers to success at youth level and establishing himself for England youth.

Born in south-west London, the starlet made the move from Wimbledon to Craven Cottage, where he would spend five years. He made his senior debut in March 2014, after his manager Felix Magath hailed him "an extraordinary talent".

Prior to that, he had starred for the under-18s in their Premier League title triumphs of 2011/12 and 2012/13, earning rave reviews for his dazzling wing play.

Versatile as well as skilful, Roberts can play either in midfield or as a second striker and he showed a glimpse of his talent when he scored a stunning solo goal against Juventus for City’s EDS team.

After making three substitute appearances for the Blues, the decision was taken to allow Roberts to gain more first team experience and he was loaned to Glasgow Celtic for 18 months.

He made an instant impression at Parkhead, starting for Celtic’s Under-20s as he made three goals and scored another in a 4-0 win over Motherwell.

He was promoted to the first team shortly after and his performances during April earned him the Scottish Player of the Month award as well as earning him a legion of new admirers north of the border.

He ended the 2015/16 season with an impressive return of seven goals in 12 games that helped Celtic clinch the Scottish Premiership title.

He remained on loan at Celtic for the 2016/17 campaign, playing against the Blues in the Celtic Park Champions League tie as a second-half sub in a 3-3 draw. He scored against City in the return game at the Etihad.

There's the promise of much more to come from this exciting prospect that City fans will be keeping a keen eye on.
