USE THE FORCE: Otamendi uses his superpowers to push the ball away without touching it

Manchester City’s Nicolas Otamendi and Sergio Aguero helped Argentina kick off their Copa America campaign with a 2-1 win over Chile.

Defender Otamendi played the full 90, while Aguero was a substitute for fellow striker Gonzalo Higuain and played for the final 17 minutes of the match in Santa Clara, California.

Paris St-Germain’s Angel Di Maria opened the scoring in the 51st minute, squeezing the ball past Chile goalkeeper Claudio Bravo at the near post.

Di Maria had been supplied by Ever Banega for the opener, and it was the Inter Milan midfielder who doubled the lead eight minutes later. This time Di Maria was the provider, with Bravo exposed at the near post once again.

Argentina were relatively untroubled at the back, with Otamendi helping to keep the defending champions at bay until Jose Fuenzalida grabbed what turned out to be a late consolation goal in stoppage time.

Kun Aguero came on for Higuain in the 73rd minutes, while Lionel Messi, nursing a slight back injury, was kept on the bench by Argentina coach Gerardo Martino.

Argentina are back in action against Panama in Chicago on Friday evening, and we’ll have a report here on mcfc.co.uk on Saturday.
