Johansen extends loan spell at Scunthorpe

City's Norwegian goalkeeper Eirik Johansen has agreed to prolong his stay at Scunthorpe United until the end of the Football League season.

The 20-year-old has played all five games for the Iron since signing at the beginning of March and the North Lincolnshire club have been impressed with his performances enough to extend his current deal.

Scunthorpe are battling to retain their League One status and currently occupy 21st position, level on points with Oldham Athletic in 20th.

Johansen was brought in to replace Scunthorpe's first-choice stopper Sam Slocombe who suffered a thigh muscle injury at the start of March.

Manager Brian Laws was glowing in his praise for Johansen's performance when Scunthorpe claimed their first win in five on Good Friday, beating Leyton Orient 2-1.

"In the games he’s played, I’ve got to say, he’s probably not had a lot to do, which seems a bit bizarre," Laws told thisisscunthorpe.co.uk.

“The goals he’s conceded he couldn’t do anything about.

“However today, he’s pulled off a couple of match-winning saves – one in the first half when the player got through and another at the end.

“That will give him massive confidence and the players were patting him on the back at the end of the game.

"The fact he’s made some match-winning saves tells us he could be of great help to us in the forthcoming games."

Eirik will return to City at the end of the Football League season on 27 April.

We'll let you know if he can help the Iron to beat the drop in our weekly Loan Watch feature here on mcfc.co.uk.
