Double joy for City in ‘This is Manchester’ Awards

DOUBLE AWARDS: City were honoured in the 'This is Manchester' Awards

DOUBLE AWARDS: City were honoured in the 'This is Manchester' Awards

Manchester City have been honoured in the ‘This is Manchester’ Awards, clinching two prizes, as local individuals and organisations were recognised for their contributions to the local community.

City in the Community claimed the award for the ‘Leading Organisation Making a Difference in the Community’, earning deserved acclaim for the Club’s commitment to improving the lives and wellbeing of individuals or groups within our local community.

The Foundation was especially hailed for its utilisation of the power of football to deliver health, education and inclusion programme to over 32,000 individuals across Greater Manchester each year.

Expressing his delight, Head of CITC Mike Green declared: “We are honoured that City in the Community has been recognised as being the Leading Organisation Making a Difference in the Community 2018 at the This is Manchester Awards.

“At the foundation, we are proud to be delivering inclusive health and education programmes to thousands of people across the city and strive to encourage more people to become more physically active, no matter their age, background or fitness level.

“To be winning awards like this is truly humbling and a testament to the hard work of everyone at the foundation.”

Meanwhile, the Etihad Stadium clinched the award for ‘Leading Sporting Venue of the Year’, celebrated for its flexibility and innovation, as well as its utilisation for non-sporting purposes, such as the hosting of many live music shows.

Artists such as the Foo Fighters, Ed Sheeran, Taylor Swift and Beyonce & Jay Z played a total of eight nights in the stadium bowl over the summer.

The Stadium’s excellent customer service and outstanding hospitality were also recognised, with a special mention for the Tunnel Club – an unrivalled hospitality experience within world football.

The award also heralded praise for the Stadium’s contribution to the community and support of diversity. The Club received the ‘Level Playing Field Centre of Excellence’ Award earlier this year.

City’s Facilities Director Clive Wilton stated: “We are delighted to have been recognised in the Leading Sporting Venue category.

“There are many people who work at our stadium, not just for matches, but also concerts, exhibitions and other events.

“This is testament to their hard work.”

The ‘This is Manchester’ Awards Ceremony aims to champion and recognise individuals and organisations rooted in Manchester, who have contributed to the local community and beyond, within the sports, entertainment, hospitality, fashion, food and drink and night-time economy sectors.

Congratulations to all involved.
