Unified Schools

13 million people in China have an intellectual disability and integrating into mainstream society can sometimes be an uphill struggle.

Unified Schools is a new project to the 2016 campaign and in its first year, will work with 1,900 children and young people in Beijing.

Zhang Cui, 27, will team up with other young leaders to help deliver unified football programmes in schools, which will help break down barriers, build friendships and create an inclusive environment for children of all abilities.

“There’s no discrimination on the football field. It gives meaningful opportunities for children with and without intellectual disabilities to interact, communicate and learn from each other.”

This project is delivered in partnership with Special Olympics East Asia
