Pep Guardiola urged City to learn the lessons from Sunday’s 5-1 Premier League loss away at Arsenal.

On what proved a tough afternoon at the Emirates, four second half goals from the hosts proved decisive after Erling Haaland’s 55th minute header had drawn the champions level following Martin Odegaard’s second minute opener.

A Thomas Partey strike just a minute after Haaland’s goal restored Arsenal’s lead with Myles Lewis-Skelly extending the advantage five minutes later before late efforts from Kai Havertz and Ethan Nwaneri sealed the hosts’ victory.

It marked City’s first league loss of 2025 – and reflecting on the game, the boss said he wanted his players to digest the learnings of that tough final 25 minutes in North London.

“After 1-1 the momentum shifted within two/three minutes to 2-1,” Pep reflected.

“I would say the pass [that led to their second] was not good but the decision to do that pass was perfect because we run with Omar, Savinho and Erling there.

“But unfortunately, they break it and after the deflection, you can lose two, three or four but the last 20 minutes what we had done in the first 60-65 minutes, we have not done.

“We had a plan but we did not do it because they have pride and they want to solve it, but that is not the way.

“Always you have to be at that level and stick what we talk [about] but unfortunately it happened and hopefully we can learn a lesson for the future.

“We will reflect and talk with the players and hopefully it won’t happen again.”
