City Studios, our world-class creative content and production hub, are back with another documentary which launches at 17:00 (UK) on Thursday.

Julian Alvarez: Standing Alone’, available on CITY+, looks back at a remarkable year for the City and Argentina striker.

Nicknamed ‘La Arana’ or ‘The Spider’, Alvarez collected six major football honours all in the space of a remarkable 12 months - starting with the FIFA World Cup for his country followed by the Premier League, FA Cup, UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup.

In our latest snippet ahead of the release Julian and his family explain the origins of his nickname.

From his early life in Calchin, Argentina, all the way to his glorious year at the Etihad, the documentary gains a fascinating insight from important people in his story.

Among those featuring are his parents Mariana and Gustavo Alvarez, girlfriend Maria Emilia Ferrero, BBC Sport’s South American football correspondent Tim Vickery, team-mates Rodrigo, Rico Lewis, Jack Grealish, Sergio Gomez and Manuel Akanji, club legend Paul Dickov, super fan Big Steve, fellow Argentinian Blues Sergio Aguero and Pablo Zabaleta as well as City’s Director of Football, Txiki Begiristain.

The documentary has been produced by City Studios, the team behind the upcoming ‘Together: Treble Winners’ six-part docuseries, which will be streamed exclusively on Netflix next month.
