Forest started fast in the City Ground encounter and took the lead with a counter-attack goal, Joško Gvardiol dispossessed by Jair Cunha who raced through to fire home the opener.
Liam Delap doubled the advantage for the hosts as the first half developed, finishing smartly on the run after being played in by Xaver Schlager.
Rayan Cherki pulled one back for the visitors after the break with a brilliant half volley and it looked at that point that the Blues could get right back into the contest.
With City pushing for a leveller, Enzo Maresca’s men were caught with a sucker-punch, with the Tricky Trees flooding forward through Morgan Gibbs-White who played in Delap, the former Academy graduate smashing past Gianluigi Donnarumma.
The result means we’re second in the Premier League table, six points behind leaders Arsenal, as we head into the international break.
