As a Manchester City player, Rico knows that his actions can have an impact beyond the pitch. He believes one way to help the community stand tall is to believe in yourself and set a positive example for others to follow. For young people watching, he hopes his journey can show that they, too, can believe in what they are capable of achieving.
Rico says standing together matters because “a group of people is always stronger than one person on their own”. His understanding of Black history is rooted in remembering the ancestors whose lives and struggles helped shape the opportunities people have today. Inspired by religion and his parents, Rico says his family has shaped him through the values they have taught him and the way they brought him up.
His message to the Manchester City community is to believe in yourself and remember that you are not alone: there are people around you who are there to support you. Rico’s words echo the message of The Stadium Speaks - that we stand stronger together, and that when one person rises, the whole community can rise with them.
