About

Manchester City has run through Jahmal’s family for three generations. Born and raised in Moss Side, in the shadow of Maine Road, he says there was only ever one choice: “the blue side”. Matchday was a highlight of the week, whether he was in the stadium or out on the surrounding streets. He remembers hearing the roar travel through Moss Side when City scored and feeling the euphoria of being part of the crowd.

Today, Jahmal brings that lifelong connection and his experience as a journalist to his role as a City Matters Black or of Mixed Heritage representative. He believes Black history is part of the Club’s identity, reflected in the contribution of players such as Yaya Touré and in City’s roots in Moss Side, home to a diverse community.

For Jahmal, seeing Black, Asian and mixed-race supporters cheering for City creates a shared sense of purpose. He describes the stadium as a sanctuary - a place where people can feel safe and come together. His message is clear: look after one another and challenge racism wherever it happens. “Racism has no place in the stadium, outside the stadium or anywhere,” he says. “Let’s make the Etihad a safe place for everybody.”
