From Next Gen to the Global Game: Marco-Antonio’s Story
At just 19 years old, Marco-Antonio Luca is already making his mark on the global football industry.
In November 2024, he became one of the youngest FIFA-licensed football agents in history, achieving the milestone at just 18 years old - a remarkable accomplishment that reflects both ambition and determination.
A former participant of the Manchester City Sports Business School Next Gen Course (2023), Marco-Antonio credits the programme as a key moment in shaping his understanding of the game beyond the pitch.
Born in Romania and raised in Germany, his journey with Manchester City began as a supporter. Years later, that connection evolved into a first-hand experience at the City Football Academy - one that would help define his career path.
“Before attending the course, I knew what I wanted to become, but I lacked industry connections and didn’t fully understand how complex football clubs are,” he explains.
The Next Gen Course provided that clarity. Through access to industry experts and insights into the inner workings of elite football, Marco-Antonio began to see the wider landscape of the game - from operations to performance and player development.
A standout moment came during a coaching session delivered at the City Football Academy. Inspired by the experience, Marco-Antonio went on to further his coaching journey, earning both his UEFA C and UEFA B Licences, as well as gaining academy experience with German sides.
While coaching played an important role in his development, his ambitions ultimately led him towards player representation.
Today, Marco-Antonio has established his own agency representing more than 15 professional footballers from Eastern Europe. Reflecting on his experience, he highlights the uniqueness of the programme:
“The course offered by Manchester City Sports Business School is truly unique. I haven’t seen another programme delivered at this level by a football club.”
His connection to the programme and to Manchester City remains strong. He continues to stay in touch with fellow participants and actively recommends the Next Gen Course to aspiring professionals looking to break into the industry.
For Marco-Antonio, the journey represents more than career progression - it is a full-circle moment.
“Within seven years, I went from supporting Manchester City as a fan, to taking part in the course, and now working professionally within the industry.”
His story is a powerful reflection of what is possible when passion meets opportunity - and a reminder of the global pathways into the business of football.
