Having been brought on as a second half substitute, the City striker struck a dramatic extra-time winner to secure a 2-1 victory over Germany.
It delivered a first major trophy for England’s women – and the nation’s first international title since the 1966 World Cup.
Remarkably, it was Kelly’s first-ever international goal.
And her achievement was put into even sharper focus by the fact that Kelly only returned to action in April after having been sidelined for almost a year with an ACL injury.
As she reflected on the magnitude of England’s glory in front of a record Wembley crowd of 87,192, Kelly was quick to praise both the fans and everyone who had helped in her rehabilitation.
“Its amazing! It's what dreams are made of! Thank you to every single person who came out to support us,” Kelly declared.
“Honestly as a young girl watching women’s football now to this… it’s unbelievable.
“Also, thank you to everyone that played a part in my rehab.
“I always believed I would be here but to be here and score the winner, wow.
“These girls are special, this manager is special and we have a special group of staff.
"My mum, all my brothers, my sisters and my nephews are here.
"As a young girl you just dream of these moments, it’s just amazing.”
It was also a special night for Kelly's City team mate Keira Walsh who was voted as the official player of the match after a commanding display that saw her set up England's opener through Ella Toone.
Meanwhile, for former long serving City midfielder Jill Scott, an England player for the past 16 years and veteran of 10 tournaments, EURO 2022 glory was a fitting moment after a magnificent career.
Scott came on near the end of full time and played a key role bringing all her experience and class to bear as the Lionesses secured victory in extra time.
"I can't believe it! It's such a privilege to be a part of this,” Scott declared.
“What a day! The younger players have been fantastic, playing with freedom.
“The celebrations are going to be big and I don't think I'm going to sleep this week!"
