Nonetheless, City have now made it four wins from four in the WSL, which is all Mead was concerned about post-match, as she spoke to the BBC.
“It’s hard coming off the back of a Champions League game, and Charlton were really hard to beat today; they defended really well,” she began.
“Our intensity could have been better off the ball from us, but we got the three points, and sometimes that’s all you need.”
Mead was speaking to City legend and former captain Steph Houghton post-match, who told the new number seven she suits playing in Blue, ahead of two more games next week, including one against her former club Arsenal.
It’s now three consecutive starts for Mead across all competitions and in different roles through the middle or out wide.
It’s something she admits has demanded immediate results, but she certainly isn’t complaining.
“I just try to do the right things, recover well, and try to go again and play as many minutes as I can; I’m never going to complain about that.
“It’s a little bit of a different way of playing, and I’ve been playing in a different role here for most of the games, but it’s a very good team who like to play football, and that’s how I like to play.
“It’s been quite seamless fitting in, but we’ve got very different players to play with, which I’ve got to get used to, but I can’t complain because we’ve got some very good players.”
