Scout episode one: How talents like Jesus are identified

Which qualities are rated above any other by our Latin America scouting team?

What details are scouts actually looking for when they watch football matches?

And what four attributes made Gabriel Jesus stand out from the millions of talented young footballers in Brazil?

These questions and more are answered in the first part of SCOUT, our four-part documentary that explores how City Football Group tries to identify the cream of the global footballing talent.

Episode One is available to watch now for CITY+ subscribers and focuses on South America.

Featuring Director of Football Txiki Begiristain, Managing Director of Global Football Brian Marwood and faces from City’s LATAM scouting and data insights teams, we explore the technical and tactical aspects that make a player attractive to City.

City have a rich history of recruiting players from South America.

The current first team squad boasts the Club’s all-time leading scorer Argentinian Sergio Aguero, along with Brazilian trio Ederson, Gabriel Jesus and skipper Fernandinho.

“The amazing thing, particularly in Brazil, is the amount of players. It’s like a conveyor belt – it really is incredible,” Senior Scouting and Recruitment Manager James Smith told City+ during Episode One.

Scout is a four-part documentary, which focuses on City’s work in South America, Europe, the United States and the Rest of the World.

The first two episodes are available to watch exclusively on CITY+ now, with the remaining two released on Friday 5 February.
