Patience and control key to derby triumph, says Mahrez
Two-goal derby hero Riyad Mahrez hailed City’s dominant 4-1 win over United was a just reward for our patience and control.

A brace from Kevin De Bruyne had sent Pep Guardiola’s side in at the break 2-1 to the good.

The Algerian then added our decisive third with a brilliant half volley midway through the second half.

And he then rounded off a memorable win with his second and our fourth after a VAR check for offside.

The win moved us six points clear at the top of the table and Mahrez said it came about from a precise game of patience from the champions.

“To be fair, I touched like four balls in the first half an hour of the game,” Mahrez reflected.

“In my head, I was like I have to be focused and that the ball will come eventually.

“The first half was pretty good. Second half we were more patient and controlled.”

His brace took his tally of goals for the season to 20.

And reflecting on his double, Mahrez said it was about both sticking to and trusting in the process.

“The first goal, the player (Harry Maguire) touched it, but you have to hit the target, just like our physio says, you have to hit the target to get the goal," he revealed.

“The second one I tried to hit it high because I know David De Gea is good at saving the ball low.

“I hit it high and it hit his face and went in - I’ll take them both!”
