Riyad Mahrez and Caroline Weir have been nominated for the 2021 FIFA Puskas Award.

The Manchester City duo are on the 11-player shortlist for the prestigious annual prize which recognises the best goal scored in men or women’s football, at any level within the club or international game.

Weir, who has been nominated for a Manchester derby strike for the second consecutive year, is in contention thanks to her delicate chip from the edge of the area in our 3-0 victory over Manchester United in February.

Mahrez joins her on the shortlist after a trademark goal for Algeria in an African Cup of Nations qualifying win against Zimbabwe last November.

Showcasing his superb touch, the 30-year-old controlled a sweeping cross field ball with the outside of his boot whilst on the move and turned his opposite number inside and out before firing a low effort past the goalkeeper.

The winner will be decided by an judging panel of footballing legends as well as a vote amongst fans from around the world and will be announced at the Best FIFA Football Awards in Zurich on 17 January 2022.

City have four others in contention for awards at the annual ceremony, with Pep Guardiola, Kevin De Bruyne, Ellen White and Lucy Bronze all shortlisted in other categories.

Guardiola is amongst the nominees for Best Men’s Coach, whilst De Bruyne is included on the Best Men’s Player shortlist.

Bronze and White have been nominated for the Best Women’s Player, which the right-back previously won in 2020.

Fans can cast their vote in all categories online at FIFA.com.

Voting will close at 23:59 (CET) on 10 December 2021 and FIFA will announce three finalists for each award in early January 2022, with the winners to be revealed at an online ceremony on 17 January 2022.
