Guardiola: The fire still burns inside me!

Guardiola: The fire still burns inside me!
Pep Guardiola says he remains motivated by the challenge of managing City.

The boss will lead us for a fifth season in 2020-21, the longest he’s ever spent as manager of a Club having completed four years at Barcelona and three at Bayern Munich.

In his time in charge, we have won two Premier League titles, an FA Cup and three Carabao Cups, setting a new top-flight points record along the way.

Some have suggested the intensity of Guardiola’s management style favours short stints in charge of teams, but he has no such concerns and says he remains focused and inspired by the job of maintaining our recent success.

“It is a challenge for me,” he said. “I have never been five years [at the same club].

“It’s a challenge to myself to see if we can maintain the level of the previous season. In a world where everyone sacks everyone, it's so difficult.

“It makes me so proud that my staff help me be here. The manager depends on results. It's a challenge for me to keep players together and maintain this level.

If you win a lot, you have difficulties handling situations. But I am so excited about the two weeks we have ahead, the Real Madrid game in particular, and the new season.

“The moment I lose the excitement and the fire inside of me, it will be a problem.

"I learn a lot about the Premier League. I learn a lot about myself, my players, the opponents. Every game is an experience."

Meanwhile, Guardiola says he could rotate his side for Tuesday’s penultimate Premier League game of the season away at Watford.

City have played 10 matches in five weeks since the restart, with two more to come this week as the league campaign comes to a conclusion.

After our trip to play Watford on Tuesday, we host Norwich on Sunday – and Guardiola says he will make full use of his squad across the two fixtures.

“We are going to make some changes [for Watford],” he said.

“Some players played semi-final and will play but we will see.

“We will play the next two games and try to let all of them play.”
