New signing Josko Gvardiol will be in the squad for the 2023/24 Premier League opener against Burnley on Friday.

The 21-year-old completed his move from RB Leipzig to the Etihad last Saturday joining up with fellow Croatian Mateo Kovacic.

He was not involved for the Community Shield clash with Arsenal later that day but Pep Guardiola says he is available to face Burnley.

“Yeah he’s ready,” the boss said in his prematch news conference.

Asked how he settled in with the rest of the team, Guardiola added: “Perfect.”

Nathan Ake was also missing from the squad at Wembley after picking up a slight injury on the preseason tour to Asia.

But Guardiola confirmed he will also be ready for the trip to Turf Moor.

“He trained good, he’s ready too,” he added.

We open the campaign against Vincent Kompany’s side at 20:00 (UK) aiming to win the title for a fourth consecutive season.

But Guardiola says the early weeks are about building rhythm rather than thinking about challenging for the Premier League.

“It feels like it finished yesterday but we start again from zero and try to play game by game,” the City boss said.

“In September you don’t think about the title. But our level, day-by-day we will try to be better than the day before and go for it. We’re here so we’ll try.”
