On this day: Euro relief, Dzeko at the double and Bristol hit for six!

Looking at events, games and moments that happened this day in our history...

September 27

1978: After drawing 1-1 with FC Twente in Holland in the UEFA Cup 1st round, 1st leg, City stumble into the second round with a 3-2 victory over the side the Dutchmen.

An own goal from Wildschut and further efforts from Brian Kidd and substitute Colin Bell prove just enough to edge home 3-2 on the night and 4-3 on aggregate.

The Blues are then paired with Belgian outfit Standard Liege for the right to progress to the last 16 of the competition and will see them off comprehensively over two legs, winning 4-0 at Maine Road and losing 2-0 in the return.

2014: Two goals from Edin Dzeko ensured City overcame a resilient Hull City 4-2 at the KC Stadium.

City had taken a two-goal lead after Sergio Aguero's volley and a Dzeko strike from long range.

But Eliaquim Mangala headed into his own net, then conceded a penalty, from which the Tigers' Abel Hernandez made it 2-2.

However, Dzeko struck again from close range, then substitute Frank Lampard hit his fourth goal in a week to secure a deserved win for Manuel Pellegrini’s side.

2015: Manchester City ensured that the Women's Super League One title race would go to the final day of the season after consigning Bristol Academy to relegation with a 6-1 win.

The hosts led 3-0 at the break thanks to goals from Jill Scott, Isobel Christiansen and Lucy Bronze.

Nikita Parris added a fourth, Christiansen netted her second from the spot and Georgia Stanway made it six.

Caroline Weir netted a consolation goal as Bristol were condemned to WSL 2.
