The 21-year-old established himself as one of City’s most important players, figuring 53 times in all competitions, scoring nine goals and providing six assists.
The Academy graduate has also demonstrated his versatility alongside his tactical and technical prowess, having made a stunning transition to left back as well as shining in his more traditional midfield role.
Nico also demonstrated he was a player for the big occasion, scoring twice to help City beat Arsenal 2-0 to win the Carabao Cup in March and featuring in our 1-0 FA Cup final triumph over Chelsea.
O’Reilly also scored and was voted the player of the match in a memorable 2-1 UEFA Champions League league phase success away at Real Madrid last winter.
As well as enjoying a magnificent season at Club level, Nico has also become a mainstay of the England national squad.
Having made his Three Lions debut last autumn, he has gone on to win three senior caps to date and will be part of Thomas Tuchel’s 2026 World Cup finals squad competing in this summer’s showpiece.
For O’Reilly it’s a third prestigious individual award, with Nico having also been voted both the Etihad Player of the Season and Premier League Young Player of the Month earlier this summer.
He also becomes the fourth City recipient of the PFA prize following in the illustrious footsteps of Leroy Sane (2017/18), Raheem Sterling (2018/19) and Phil Foden (2020/21 and 2021/22).
“I’m hugely honoured and proud to have won this award,” said O’Reilly.
“To be recognised by your fellow professionals is a great feeling.
“The Premier League has so many outstanding young players so to be honoured this way means such a lot both to me and my family.
“I would like to thank everyone who voted for me as well as all my teammates and the City coaching staff for their incredible help and support.
“Without them this wouldn’t have been possible.
“I’m also so grateful both to my family for their love and support - and to the City fans who have been unbelievable with me ever since I first played for the Club.
“To win this award really does mean a lot.”
For Director of Football Hugo Viana this latest recognition was further illustration of O’Reilly’s dedication and commitment alongside his huge natural talent and ability.
