Our captain was the first signing made by manager Pep Guardiola after he took charge at City in the summer of 2016.
And in the intervening seven years since joining us from Borussia Dortmund, the German midfielder has established himself as a true Manchester City legend, performing with huge intelligence and distinction.
Gundogan cemented himself in City folklore with his dramatic late brace of goals in last season’s Premier League finale, helping us fight back from 2-0 down to beat Aston Villa 3-2.
Appointed as Club captain in succession to Fernandinho at the start of this season, the 32-year-old’s impact and influence has been profound once again this term.
And having helped City secure a remarkable hat-trick of league titles, and a fifth success in six years under Guardiola, Gundogan said it was an achievement that was the measure of anything he had achieved in his stellar career.

“To have helped the Club win a third straight Premier League title is something very special,” Gundogan declared.
“The Premier League is without doubt the most demanding and competitive league in the world so that tells you everything about what an achievement this is.
“This squad is so talented and so special and to have been captain this season has been an enormous privilege.
“I would also like to thank Pep, all the backroom staff and everyone who works across this football club. Every single day they help provide us as players with everything we need in order to try to be successful.
“There is no way we could have won this title without all their support.
“To have won this trophy three times in a row and five times in six years is incredible. That quality and consistency helps sum up what Manchester City stand for and ensures the Club will continue to strive for success going forward.
“It has been a season I will never forget.”
Gundogan also had a special message of thanks and gratitude to the City fans whose unwavering support and backing had proved such a key component in our success again this season.
The German believed the energy, passion and support we have enjoyed all season – both home and away – were another pivotal factor in City’s latest title success and made a key difference in what was a tight title race with Arsenal.
“Our amazing fans have been with us every single step of the way,” Gundogan added.
“Without their amazing backing I don’t think there is any way we would have been able to achieve what we have done these past six seasons. Their passion and support have been so important and inspirational for us all.
“Hopefully winning the Premier League title again is a fitting way for us to say thank you to our fans.”
