Joao Cancelo named FPL King of the Gameweek

Joao Cancelo has been crowned the Fantasy Premier League King of the Gameweek for his standout performance in Manchester City’s 4-0 win away to Newcastle.

The Portuguese defender was at the centre of City’s opening two goals at St. James’ Park, with his exploits helping him earn the most FPL points of any Premier League player across the latest round of fixtures.

Cancelo, who was tipped for success in this week’s FPL Scout Report ahead of the game, fed Ruben Dias for the game’s opening goal, before doubling our advantage with a sumptuous solo effort.

Combined with an additional clean sheet, maximum bonus points and featuring for over an hour at St. James’ Park, Cancelo earned an astonishing 18 FPL points on his 100th City appearance.

It is the defender’s second King of the Gameweek crown of the season, with him also winning the award thanks to an imperious Manchester derby performance back in October.

Cancelo also becomes the second consecutive City player to earn the title, following in the footsteps of Kevin De Bruyne after his standout display against Leeds United.

The 27-year-old is also joined by fellow City teammates Ruben Dias, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Riyad Mahrez and Raheem Sterling in this week’s FPL dream team.

It is the eighth week in succession that at least one of Pep Guardiola’s men has featured among the 11 best scoring players, further demonstrating our incredible consistency of late.

Congratulations to Joao on being named FPL King of the Gameweek!
