Fernandinho's pride at record sixth League Cup triumph

Fernandinho spoke of his immense pride after skippering City to a fourth successive Carabao Cup triumph – and creating English history by winning his sixth winners’ medal.

The Brazilian – along with unused substitute Sergio Aguero – created a new record by claiming their sixth League Cup crown as Aymeric Laporte’s 82nd minute header sealed a 1-0 win over Tottenham at Wembley.

Though he turns 36 next month, Fernandinho’s impact and importance to the cause remains huge and he was a key figure again at Wembley.

And reflecting on his historic achievement, the midfielder admitted it was a special moment to savour.

“It feels very good, it is an amazing sensation,” Fernandinho admitted.

“We deserved to win that game today, from the first minute we created chances.

“I’m really happy for myself, for my teammates for everyone associated with the club.

“I’m really proud to win six trophies in this competition. I’m grateful for this club. I’m so happy to see the fans back in the stadium.

“We tried to press them as high as possible and we created some chances, Riyad Mahrez made them make unbelievable saves and we also hit the post."
