Erling Haaland is delighted that City have made an even better start to the season than during our Treble-winning campaign.

Pep Guardiola’s side head into the international break top of the Premier League and already through to the knockout stages of the Champions League.

At this time 12 months ago, City were five points off top spot after 14 matches, but this season lead the way following our 4-4 draw with Chelsea on Sunday.

“We’ve been doing really good, we’re top of the league and already through in the Champions League,” Haaland said.

“It’s been a really good couple of months - better than last season to be honest. It’s been a good start.”

It speaks of the selflessness of the City striker that he is more interested in the team’s progress than any personal statistics.

Haaland already has a phenomenal 17 goals from just 18 appearances, but remarkably it’s five fewer than at the same stage last season.

He added two more goals at Stamford Bridge but was disappointed not to pick up a victory.

“It was a tough game, I enjoyed it,” the Norwegian international added. “Normally when you score four goals you might win but we didn’t - that’s how it is.

“We had the chance to seal the win a couple of times, but we didn’t. It’s something we’ve got to work on. Next time we’ll have to score five.

“I feel good to score but a bit disappointed to not win. One point is better than zero.

“It’s not easy to come here. We know Chelsea are a good team, so we prepared to play them, and we did our best. We didn’t play bad, we made mistakes but that’s football.”

His brace means he is just one short of a half century of Premier League goals and he could break the record as the player quickest to score 50 times.

Andy Cole currently holds the record with 50 goals from 65 appearances but Haaland has made 18 appearances fewer, however last season’s Footballer of the Year says it’s not a motivation.

“I don’t care too much about it,” he said. “I care about performing and developing.

“I’m still 23-years-old. Records come - that’s a good thing but in the end, I don’t think of it.”
