Gallery: Jesus helps City cut through Blades!

Manchester City battled to a 1-0 Premier League victory over a defensively organised Sheffield United at the Etihad Stadium, with Gabriel Jesus netting the only goal of the game in the ninth minute.

Pep Guardiola made five changes from the midweek win over West Bromwich Albion but the team began where they left off, taking the lead in the ninth minute through Jesus from close-range after persistent play from Ferran Torres, making them the youngest duo to combine for a Premier League goal for the club this season.

It was a first-half of few chances, as City dominated possession but the visitors remained organised and rigid defensively.

City looked dangerous from set-pieces, with Ilkay Gundogan delivering some accurate corners for Ruben Dias and Aymeric Laporte to attack, but neither could get a clean contact with the ball.

Just after the hour mark, Aaron Ramsdale had his first bit of real work to do, palming away Oleksandr Zinchenko's powerful shot that was destined for the top corner.

Torres was a nuisance for the Blades' backline and the Spaniard raced down the right flank, but could not pull the ball back into the box for the waiting Jesus after heavy pressure from Jayden Bogle.

Chris Wilder's men, who saw very little of the ball during the encounter, provided a late scare as John Fleck curled a shot just wide of Ederson's left post.

Jesus could have made it two deep into stoppage time, but he was denied expertly by the sprawling Ramsdale.

Guardiola's men remained professional and saw out the victory, marking 12 consecutive victories in all competitions!
