Phil Foden’s hat-trick helped Manchester City sweep aside Aston Villa 4-1 at the Etihad Stadium in the Premier League.

Following a goalless draw with Arsenal over the weekend, Pep Guardiola’s men were on the hunt from the referee’s whistle to attack the visiting Aston Villa.

On 11 minutes, Jeremy Doku picked up the ball on the right-hand side and whipped a cross into the oncoming Rodri, who had held his run and timed it to perfection, before poking into the roof of the net.

Less than 10 minutes after, Villa were on the counter attack, and a give and go between Morgan Rogers and Jhon Duran led to the latter  slotting past Stefan Ortega Moreno.

Before half time, Phil Foden stepped up and curled a free-kick into the back of the net after wrong-footing Robin Olsen.

Rodri played a massive role in our third as he slalomed through the field to the edge of the area and dummied round Moussa Diaby, before he laid it off to Foden, who took a touch then calmly swept it in off the far post.

Man of the Match, Foden, capped off the scoring with a fabulous fourth.

City won the ball back on the edge of the area and Julian Alvarez left the loose ball for Foden, who cut in on his left foot and fired into the top corner from around 25-yards out.

The victory means we moved level on points with Liverpool who play Sheffield United Thursday evening, but we’re a point behind league leaders Arsenal after their win over Luton.
