TOUR: MCWFC will head to North Carolina in August

TOUR: MCWFC will head to North Carolina in August

Manchester City is delighted to announce our women’s team will be returning to America this summer, where we will compete in the second Women’s International Champions Cup (ICC).

Organised by Relevent Sports Group, the Women’s International Champions Cup includes four of the top women’s teams from around the world, providing clubs with a platform to go up against the best.

Last summer, Manchester City took part in the inaugural tournament, which was held at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami and saw the Blues face both Olympique Lyonnais and Paris Saint-Germain.

This year’s tournament, which takes place from 15 to 18 August in North Carolina, will see City, Atlético de Madrid, Olympique Lyonnais and North Carolina Courage all challenge for the title, with North Carolina playing host to all games at their home ground WakeMed Soccer Park.

Nick Cushing's squad includes a host of internationals, including England captain Steph Houghton, and will fly out to the United States on 12 August following what is expected to be an exciting summer of women’s football in France at the World Cup finals.

All Women’s ICC matches will be broadcast on ESPN, meaning fans will have even more opportunities to catch all the action.

City are still in contention for a domestic treble this season having already lifted the Continental Cup as well as securing a place in the Women's FA Cup semi-finals while the Blues currently sit top of the FA Women's Super League table.

Ahead of the pre-season tour, Gavin Makel, Head of Women’s Football at Manchester City commented: “We are delighted to be taking part in the second Women’s International Champions Cup. Last year, the tournament offered the team great preparation for the season ahead, as well as an opportunity to connect with our growing fan base in America.

“With four elite teams taking part, the competition is even better this time around and we look forward to be a part of it once again.”

Manchester City captain Steph Houghton added: “A strong pre-season tournament is vital preparation for a season in which we could be competing in as many as four competitions.

"Last year’s Women’s International Champions Cup challenged us on the pitch and gave us a great platform to start the new season. Overall, it was an incredible experience for the whole team and we look forward to visiting America again and meeting all the fans out there."

Tickets for the tournament will be available at a later date at www.internationalchampionscup.com
