With less than 50 days until the Premier League returns the back pages continue to be filled with transfer gossip ahead of the new season.

The media continue to link Manchester City with several targets and Saturday morning’s headlines provide more column inches on two players the reigning champions are claimed to be in pursuit of.

One is Joao Cancelo, with the Daily Star reporting the Portuguese defender has agreed personal terms with the Club.

Writes Duncan Robinson: “According to Italian journalist Nicolo Schira, City have offered £45m for Cancelo but Juventus want closer to £54m.

“Cancelo has reportedly already agreed a five-year contract with City earning £4.5m a year and is waiting for the two clubs to reach an agreement.

Guardiola is hoping to get everything agreed and completed by the time his side return for pre-season training in a fortnight.”

Meanwhile, the Manchester Evening News believe City have fought off competition for Atletico Madrid’s Rodri.

Writes Joe Bray: “Manchester City’s pursuit of Rodri might have taken a turn in the club’s favour, according to the latest reports.

“Rodri’s status has been subject of many conflicting reports as he looks set to leave Atletico Madrid. City are favourites with the bookmakers, but Bayern Munich have also been named as potential suitors for the midfielder as the German club are linked with a last-minute attempt to sign Rodri.

“Now, though, the latest indications from Kicker say Rodri has decided to join Pep Guardiola’s men and is close to an agreement with the club.”
