The return of Premier League football is just around the corner, with Manchester City travelling to Everton on Saturday.

We need just two more wins to win the title but before we get to the serious matter of the game at Goodison Park, there’s plenty of transfer speculation circulating via this morning’s back pages.

Let’s start with Jeremy Cross’ report in the Star, which suggests City are set to launch a summer bid for Real Madrid’s Isco.

The midfielder, who scored a hat-trick for Spain against Argentina on Tuesday, is believed to be considering a move away from the Bernabeu and Cross says City are big admirers.

“Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola wants to raid Real Madrid to land Spanish ace Isco,” Cross writes.

“Guardiola has targeted his midfield as his main area to strengthen this summer and has made Isco one of his top targets.

“Isco, 25, has become disillusioned at the Bernabeu and Etihad bosses are confident of signing him in a £75m deal.

“Sources in Spain claim Guardiola has contacted Isco’s camp to make it clear how much he wants him to join City.”

Meanwhile, Simon Rice, writing in the Metro, says Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Fred favours a move to the Premier League when he leaves the Ukrainian side.

Rice believes Fred is a target for City and cross-town rivals Manchester United.

“Manchester United and Man City transfer target Fred has made the Premier League his preferred destination, says his representative Gilberto Silva,” Rice writes.

“The Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder is understood to be being pursued by the current top-two teams in England and the Brazilian is expected to make a move this summer.

“Former Arsenal hero Gilberto represents his compatriot and confirmed that enquiries had already been made.”

That’s all for this morning’s media roundup. Stay with us throughout the day as we continue our buildup to the Everton game.
