Manchester City’s Champions League draw was the big news of the day on Friday so it’s no surprise to see it role into Saturday’s media agenda.

The Blues will face Liverpool in the quarter-final and the pairing of two Premier League teams has generated plenty of reaction in the press.

Players and managers have also been quick to react and Reds’ boss Jurgen Klopp has told the Liverpool Echo how Ilkay Gundogan, who played under the German at Borussia Dortmund, was quick to text him following the draw.

Klopp said: “Yes, he said in German ‘bis bald’ and I wrote back ‘see ya’.”

“The message came immediately to be honest. Bis bald pretty much means, ‘see you soon’ and I used a Scouse phrase ‘see ya’.”

Klopp has also revealed how much he is looking forward to the tie, admitting City’s style of play makes for a good test and an entertaining contest.

He told The Mirror: “I love these games. They are fantastic for me and you know if you play City they do what they do at the highest level.

“They don’t defend the result, they go again. It’s cool. For sure the first one will be a really exciting game to watch.

“City is obviously one of the strongest teams in the competition; I have absolutely no problem with that, the good thing is we know more about Manchester City than we could know about any other team we could have faced.”

A former Liverpool manager certainly agrees with Klopp’s assessment that City’s last eight meeting with the Merseysiders has the potential be a wonderful watch.

Brendan Rogers, now in charge at Celtic, believes it could be the tie of the round as he told The Express: “Two fantastic teams, it’s going to be a special occasion.

“Obviously the first game is at Anfield so Liverpool will look to make a good start in the tie there. It’s a fascinating game, it should be brilliant.

“It’s just a shame that both got drawn together at this stage; it would have been nice for them to have been split up, to be honest, because they’re both two very, very good sides.

“I think it’s probably the tie of the round.”
