In today’s media round-up, the papers write that Pep Guardiola has taken City to the next level while another recent article has heaped praise on our “hero” goalkeeper…

Today marks just two days since we were crowned Premier League champions – and it’s still the talk of the back pages!

First up, we turn our attention to our “superstar” ‘keeper – Ederson.

The Brazilian has played a key part in our Premier League success this season, and it has certainly been recognised by the media.

An article in The Sun has stated that the 24-year-old is arguably the most consistent City player due to his efforts throughout the campaign.

Phil Thomas writes: “Manchester City fans have been spoiled for choice when it comes to heroes this season.

“The breathtaking finishing of Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus. The lightning feet of Raheem Sterling and Leroy Sane.

“The razor sharp brains and deadly deliveries of Kevin De Bruyne and David Silva, or the rock solid midfield enforcement of Fernandinho.

“Every one of them has their backers. Every one of them has been outstanding – with plenty more besides.

“Yet when it comes to the stand-out performer in their stand-out season, one player rarely, if ever, gets a mention.

“For this season Ederson has been arguably THE most consistent performer in their team of champions.

“A man who has brought steel, calm and confidence to the backline. A man who, at one stage went seven games – including an international debut – without conceding.

“Confident, calm, commanding – you can’t stress how that last one is to the rest of the defence – and class. Ederson has the lot.

“And his ability to pick a pass, short, mid-range or long, is second to no other keeper in the world. The perfect Pep goalkeeper.”

High praise for the stopper, indeed!

Next we move on to our manager – as a recent article in the Manchester Evening News has stated that Pep Guardiola has taken the Blues to “new heights”.

“Pep Guardiola’s team, this season, has taken me to even greater heights,” wrote Ian Cheeseman. “West Brom’s win at Old Trafford might have been the moment City were confirmed as Champions of England but I knew in my heart that this team would lift the title when they beat United and Spurs in back to back Premier League games in December.

“Since then I’ve drunk in the exhilaration of watching their amazing football without that sense of jeopardy I’ve felt throughout my time watching City.

“The only occasion I’ve sensed that the supporters were willing to show what I was feeling, in public, was after the 2-0 win at Stoke in March.

“Key moments in history are said to be those events when you remember where you were when it happened.

“I’ll never forget where I was when City won the 2018 title; I was at Schalke. It all seems strangely appropriate.

“That first game I attended as a boy was City v Schalke at Maine Road on April 15, 1970 - exactly 48 years to the day earlier!”

Sky Sports pundit, Gary Neville, was next on hand to praise the way that City won the title.

“In terms of style I had my doubts from last season. Every Premier League team that I’ve seen win the league has had an element of what I call power. There’s never been a team that I would say in my mind that played just pure football,” Neville explained on Sky’s Monday Night Football.

“Of course they’ve had to defend free-kicks, of course they’ve had to do the ugly part of the game at certain points but they’ve absolutely shown us another way. I look at the possession of the teams that have won the league that is a different level.

“In terms of style, this is different to anything we’ve seen before. Of course we have seen teams keep possession. All the teams that have won the league, apart from Leicester, have had more possession but to get to a 70 per cent average is absolutely outrageous.”

Finally, Ian Wright has stated that it’s simply difficult to find fault with any of Pep Guardiola’s signings and goes on to say that our boss should be saluted for his efforts.

“The real art is not simply paying big fees, it’s getting those players who suit your structure and system,” Wright wrote in his recent column for The Sun.

“Those players who will improve what you already have and take it forward.

“Pep hasn’t always got it right in the market but this year he most definitely has.

“It’s hard to find fault with any of his buys.

“There just seems to be an innate jealousy among other fans and an insistence on picking holes in anything and everything.

“We should be saluting Pep for the football he’s played, his determination to do it the right way, even when everyone said he’d find the Prem too tough after La Liga and the Bundesliga.

“Well, he hasn’t just disproved that, he’s made it look even easier — City really have been that impressive.”

That’s all for your Tuesday media round-up, but we will be back tomorrow with all the latest City news from the back pages.
