Journalists have again penned stories linking Manchester City with Kyle Walker and Alexis Sanchez, while there’s also some international reaction to peruse this morning.
Beginning with the Spurs full-back, the Daily Mirror suggests the Blues are edging ever close to completing a deal for Walker.
David McDonnell writes: “Manchester City will open talks with Tottenham this week over their £40million bid to sign Kyle Walker.
“Walker returns from England duty on Wednesday with City ready to start negotiations with Spurs for the defender Pep Guardiola has targeted.
“Guardiola sees Walker, 27, as the man to fill City’s void at right-back, with City said to be prepared to go in excess of £40m to ensure they land him.”
Over at the Manchester Evening News, it’s Alexis Sanchez who’s getting the transfer treatment, as James Robson considers what’s next for the Chilean.
“Manchester City have been left hoping Alexis Sanchez can hold his nerve long enough to force a move to the Etihad," he reports.
“Pep Guardiola has made the Arsenal striker one of his top targets this summer - but faces a fight to convinces Arsene Wenger to sell.
“City have grown increasingly confident they can secure a £50m deal for him - but it is a case of how determined Arsenal are to block his way.”
Meanwhile, Raheem Sterling was in action for England last night as they lost 3-2 against France in Paris.
However, the City winger impressed and earned praise from the Daily Mail’s Rob Draper in his post-match player ratings.
Describing Sterling, he reports: “England’s liveliest player with a delightful back heel to set up the opening goal. Always a threat and looked ultra motivated.”
England manager Gareth Southgate was equally impressed, singling our No.7 out for a mention post-match.
The national boss told thefa.com: “There were some definite positive individual performances. I thought Raheem Sterling caused a lot of problems in his position.”
